Millésime 2005
Blind tasting, Sept. 2008 - Full colour. Rich, full, ripe and oaky on the nose. Lots of depth and quality here. Splendidly opulent and seductive on the palate. Excellent grip. Full body. Great finesse at the end. A great wine. From 2018. 20.0
January 2008 - A hint of menthol adds nuance to the mostly high y-spiced red berry fruit nose that is also quite reserved if a touch less complex and leads to sweet, delicious, generous and round medium full flavors that are classy and refined, all wrapped in a strikingly persistent and explosive finish. This too offers excellent cellar potential and at this early stage the wood, which is normally fairly prominent, is already well integrated but note that this will need every bit of 15 years, perhaps even slightly longer, to arrive at its prime as it’s very structured. A really beautiful LGR. 2020+ 94
Mar/Apr 08 - Good deep red. Coolish, discreet aromas of cherry, minerals and menthol. Broad, lush and pure; a step up in sweetness and flesh from this estate's other 2005s but with strong mineral and crushed stone elements giving real punch to the red fruit and floral flavors. This has real grand cru weight and palate presence. Finishes with harmonious tannins and superb aromatic persistence. A beauty-and built for long life in bottle. 94
Millésime 2006
The World of Fine Wine, "Déjà Bu" Tasting, 2009 - A very bewitching nose: classy, complex, and penetrating. Gorgeous, very refined, silken texture, but fresher and livelier than most, with great intensity of fruit and length. Superb, and for me unsurpassed in this tasting. 18.5 (all testers: 18.10)
Tasted in 2009 - Full colour. Very pure and very, very classy on the nose. Cool, composed, rich and concentrated on the palate. Plus a touch of new oak. Medium-full body. Balanced, understated, fresh and intense. From 2016. 19.0
The World of Fine Wine, "Déjà Bu" Tasting, 2009 - The final flight—Grande Rue, Richebourg, La Romanée, and Romanée-St-Vivant— generally provided more excitement, and indeed the top two wines of the entire tasting, which were also respectively second and third among the 2005s last year—confirmation, if any were needed, of the exceptional quality of Lamarche’s monopole Grande Rue.
January 2008 - Somewhat surprisingly given the usual pattern between the GE and La Grande Rue, this is more reserved, indeed even discreet with a ripe panoply of both spicy red and black pinot fruit aromas amplified by plenty of spice notes that are transmitted clearly to the rich, full, sweet and very stylish flavors that are at once mouth coating and serious yet entirely classy on the driving finish. While the personality here is very different from the GE, they are qualitative equals and if they are available, both would make excellent additions to your cellars. 2016+ 91-94
10 Sep. 2009 - Bright crimson. A little bit of decay on the nose, bright cherry fruit. Very sweet and flattering. A bit chewy on the finish. Lots of succulent fruit. Drink 2012-18. 17.5
Mar/Apr 08 - Good full red. Wonderfully scented nose offers raspberry, cherry, smoked meat, coffee and minerals. Suave and precise; here the oak complements rather than dominates the flavors of raspberry and minerals. Juicy, classically dry and palate-staining. Finishes scented and long. 91-93
Millésime 2007
Tasted in London with Justerini & Brooks. Not in the same league as the 2005, but a very fine wine. More introverted on the nose but well defined with an earthy quality. Baked red cherry, raspberry and cranberry fruit. Good lift. Sensuous on the entry, very smooth and cohesive. Not as complex or as riveting as the ’05, but feminine and gentle on the finish. Drink 2011-2025. Tasted January 2009. 92-94
January 2009 - In contrast to the last two wines, here the wood is again very generous though it does not dominate the spicy and dense red pinot fruit that merges into a relatively lush, even opulent flavor profile that is supple and textured with impressive volume and mid-palate fat, all wrapped in a powerful, focused and long finish. This is a comparatively big ’07 with plenty of dry extract. 2017+ 93
