Millésime 2006
Tasted in 2009 - Medium-full colour. Fresh, new oaky nose. Classy fruit here. Fullish body. Ripe and balanced and with plenty of energy. Lots of depth. Impressive. Fine plus. From 2016. 18.0
January 2008 - A more refined and more elegant nose of red pinot, blue berry and intense floral notes, particularly violets, introduces rich, pure and sleekly muscled full-bodied flavors that are perhaps a bit more generous and accessible than usual while culminating in an impeccably balanced, serious and gorgeously long finish. This is a classic Grands Ech as the inherent robustness of the structure is hidden by the class and breed of the nose and flavors. I quite like this. 2016+ 91-94
10 Sep. 2009 - Jewel-bright dark crimson. Paint-like on the nose. Interesting but very challenging! Reverberant. Drink 2013-20. 17
Mar/Apr 08 - Medium red. Red fruits lifted by exotic spices, with a touch of reduction. Opens with noticeable oak, but this is pure and precise in the middle, with a supple texture, considerable sweetness and an enticing perfumed character. The sappiest to this point of these 2006s, conveying a strong impression of extract on the broad, palate-dusting finish. 90-93
"Déjà Bu" Tasting, 2009 17.40 (all testers, avg.)
Millésime 2007
Tasted at BBR in London. This has a slightly stalky nose, becoming more tertiary in the glass with a hint of pain grille. The palate is harmonious, good weight but unresolved compared to the La Grande Rue. Not a deep, profound Grands Echézeaux, more foursquare with a touch of austerity towards the finish. Needs time. Drink 2013-2020. Tasted January 2009. 90-92
January 2009 - A slightly wild nose of underbrush, freshly turned earth, jerky, spice hints and concentrated black and dark berry fruit aromas complements the dusty, intense and well-muscled flavors that are supported by dense but relatively sophisticated and fine tannins plus excellent length. This is well balanced and should require about a decade in the cellar first. 2017+ 92
