Millésime 2005
Blind tasting, Sept. 2008 - Medium-full colour. Ripe, rich, profound, oaky nose. Round, ample and succulent on the palate. Fullish. Vigorous. A lovely, intense, classy, understated wine. Very fine at the end. From 2015. 18.5
January 2008 - The reserved nose that was present from cask has been replaced by a notably ripe and very expressive aromatic profile with an intense spice component that merges into the fresh, precise and racy flavors that are really quite pure, all wrapped in a persistent finish that offers more minerality than usual. This is an impressive effort that is both sweet and fresh and more refined than is typical for Chaumes. Recommended. 2013+ 91
Mar/Apr 08 - Good bright ruby-red. Raspberry, minerals, coffee and sexy oak tones on the enticing nose. Pliant and sweet but light on its feet, with perfumed red fruit and spice flavors lifted by a floral element. Not fleshy but aromatic and pure. Has the firm spine to age slowly and gracefully. 90(+?)
Millésime 2006
Tasted in 2009 - Medium-full colour. Soft nose. No great weight. But elegant. Medium body. Crisp and full of fruit. Good balance if no great grip or concentration. Quite forward. Classy though. Very good plus. From 2013. 16.5
January 2008 - This too displays moderate wood influence that highlights the beautifully seductive red and black fruit profile nuanced by hints of violets and Vosne-style Asian spices that are also picked up on the supple, generous, rich and relatively round medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent volume on fine concentration on the sappy and mouth coating finish. The tannins are quite fine and I like the overall sense of balance. 2013+ 88-91
10 Sep. 2009 - Mid nervy very chewy fruit. Just a bit too tough. This almost works but it’s bit dry on the end alas. Drink 2014-2020. 16
Mar/Apr 08 - Good medium red. Redcurrant, raspberry and minerals on the nose. Supple on entry, then juicy and bright in the middle palate, with attractive floral lift to the cherry and mineral flavors. The finish features some dusty tannins and a slight oaky dryness. (The Suchots was scheduled for a racking days after my visit and was too reduced to assess with confidence.) 87-89
"Déjà Bu" Tasting, 2009 15.95 (all testers, avg.)
Millésime 2007
Tasted in London with Justerini & Brooks. An excellent wine. Much more intensity on the nose compared to the Village Cru with cranberry, strawberry and rose petals. Good definition. The palate has edgy tannins on the entry, sharp acidity, but vibrant and well poised. Excellent focus on the finish. Superb. Drink 2010-2018. Tasted January 2009. 91-93
January 2009 - Noticeable if not dominant wood sets off an elegant and relatively refined nose of red berry fruit, soy and anise nuances that introduce lush, opulent and round flavors that manage to retain a fine sense of precision on the energetic finish. This is very pinot but with enough evident Vosne character to be interesting. 2013+ 89
